In the Case of Miss Marple the Idea that Miss Marple had a relationship with a Married man is a ludicrous invention thought up by someone at ITV because someone obviously thought that everything these days MUST have a reason which “MUST” be looked into, It does nothing for the Character apart from spoiling it for people like me who think if it isn’t in the book it shouldn’t be in the Adaptation although putting Hasdtings Miss Lemon and Japp in Evil Under The Sun, Putting Japp in Lord Edgware Dies and Hickory Dickory Dock, Putting Hastings in Murder in Mesopotamia and Putting Miss Lemon More in the series than in the Books are all Excellent Ideas.

I wouldn’t say it’s a relationship or a romance so much as admiration, however.

The Marple one is definitely telly-meddling; never mentioned anywhere in the books at all.
