In my case, only a really strong sneeze ellicits the awful smell of… well, burnt cork. This smell has come and gone through the years, but it has now stuck around for several years.

I assume that the rush of air from a strong sneeze evacuates the sinuses. Sinuses are closed cavities, normally without airflow. I think that the smell is stagnant, rotten sinus.

I’ve heard of having a doctor clean out your sinuses. I also read of people managing to position their head to fill their own sinuses with saline and roll the head around to wash them out. I haven’t tried it yet, but I plan to soon.

I can’t believe you didn’t answer that little child’s question in epi-99. I’m sure you thought, Ollie Mann, that you were being funny, but cruel isn’t funny and your behavior was very cruel inded to that 3 year old. I think you owe an apology at the very least, and definately an answer. Perhaps you’re getting too big for your britches and no longer need donations for your podcast??

Love the Hugh Thingummy Whittingdangle thing – Hilarious. A good thing to give to the new apprentice on their first day. The importance of proper tea making cannot be underestimated. The Gallic abomination served up when (don’t ever do this) you ask for tea anywhere in France, is made with lukewarm water and hot milk. It beggars belief how anyone could get it so wrong. It’s as close to tea as cat vomit is to hummous. Looks the same but don’t for god’s sake put it in your mouth.

me and some friends got dressed up as run dmc for a party which involved going brown. over the top of our dmc outfits we wore klansmen costumes we walked into the middle of the do to gasps of bad taste of our fellow revellers only to tear of the hateful kkk costumes off to reveal ourselves to be the worlds greatest hip hop group and proceeded to tear and then jump up and down on the offending kkk outfits of hate, and show that the dearly departed jam master jay was back from the dead to kick racist ass…. now if thats wrong…….

It is indeed true that hiccups are awkward in social settings with people that you may not know very well. I think society should make up a word or phrase that would let the hiccupper know that the hiccup has been acknowledged. I am suggesting that we use the words “Yuppie Down”. This would be a really cheesy way to use opposites on the syllables, “hic(k) – up”. If this were to start in corporate America, it should spread to the rural areas, but I’m sure the rural areas may take a bit of offense to the response. Just my thoughts.

Be prepared to find dirty laundry EVERYWHERE – and by find I mean not only “encounter by chance” but also “engage in desperate searches for.” Before going out for any occasion (classes, dates, fancy dress parties, funerals, murderous sprees, etc.), my guy and I have to engage in a half hour game of “Hunt the Sock” which inevitably ends with the disappointing discovery of two pieces of holy cotton that, with a bit of creative license and a lot of squinting, might be taken for a pair of his socks. No preventative measures have ever been successful.

Thanks for the responses everyone. The responses on the night I did it were all positive (random people buying me drinks in the pub, got into the nightclub for free, got hit on by a guy (seriously, he tried to kiss me even with the stick on moustache!) and I even managed to hitchhike a lift home!) but later discussions with other acquaintances brought up some of the points raised here.

after many years of sneezing without reason, and it leaving the smell of rape seed in my nose, i thought i would google it… and i found this.

nice to know im not alone, but not many answers unfortunately.
i havent got hayfever, well not to my knowledge. i dont sneeze anymore in spring/summer than i do in winter
i do tend to sneeze more in mornings though!
i never had any illnesses when i was younger, or nose bleeds etc

You are obviously not racist, and aren’t intenting to hurt anyone, but you could still upset someone without meaning it. I would say unless you are only with close friends you know won’t be offended, it is a really bad idea.

PS. Although it is better than wearing a green, white and gold flag on your bonce or singing ‘The Famine Song’.

Although the sentiment behind it is not racist, its a sensetive issue, and it doesnt hurt to bear in mind some people could be pretty upset by it. The history of white people blacking up is not a pretty one, and it definitely has very negative connotations. In Australia many people say the word “Paki” as a legitimate shortening of the word “Pakistani”, with no offense intended, but we wouldnt use it here because of the connotations it has. So I would say probably don’t do it… its just polite!
